Perfect

Good morning. It's been a hot July full of fires in Colorado. Wonderful rain arrived and with it flash flood warnings. The burned soil was compromised because it no longer held roots.

Sometimes, I wonder is it possible for a writer to over kill in trying so hard to be perfect? So much so that the"life" is drained out of their stories?  Writers that love the Lord often come to the falls and pray as they relax. They also praise and ask God for the perfect timing for their work to go forward. They find as they become refreshed that they have to make changes and wait a little longer. It's hard to obey sometimes isn't it? But they do want their work to glorify their King.

I'm reminded of something my sweet French/Indian grandmother told me once as we dressed for church one fine Sunday morning. "We dress up, not because we are proud my dear, we dress in our best because we are approaching the throne." I never forgot that. It's a sign of respect as is obedience in waiting.

How do we know? This perfect timing thing? I often don't folks. I believe it's a trust issue with the Creator of the Universe. He created the story didn't He?

I want to post the cover of my second novel, Lady Outfitter. I'm so excited as I wait for just the perfect time to release this book. Thank you Father for adding the perfect "music notes" to this story so it sings to the world.

I'll post a little about the book in a short while. In the meantime, be blessed as we move into August.

I'm home again

There's no place like home is there? I'm so happy to be back after attending my little brother's funeral. Things were difficult and I planned to stay longer but returned because of deadlines and can't do much to help the family until the fall. I have a new book available now, yea! My first published novel. "Vapors" is special in many ways and I'm glad that it came first. I'll be posting a picture of the cover. This story is about the two end time prophets in the Book of Revelations in the Bible and how they met to carry out the Lord's call on their lives. You can get it at http://fullsailbooks.com. Gretchen Ricker the publisher deserves all the credit in getting this book out. She is full of knowledge and awesome. I recommend her for help in the publishing industry. She is always willing to help and answer any questions that a writer could come up with. I do hope to post more in the future and give you more writing encouragement. Today is a day of standing under the falls and rinsing off the negatives, the losses, the misunderstandings, the tear tracks and preparing to "pick" up that pencil again. I will leave with a reminder,"If I can do writing and publishing, then you can too!" The word for us today is PERSEVERANCE! Embrace it and know that you are a beloved child of the King.

Someone necessary and special in your writing life.

I wanted to celebrate sending off yet another manuscript by giving my editor Linda Harris kudos for helping me so much in this novel. I'll post more later about it.

Today though I thought I'd encourage you to find an editor. Not all are alike and I'd like to caution you to find one that you can be compatible with. You want to find one who understands where you are coming from, your personal writing voice, your tone, lots of things and your personal mission statement, whether or not you are Christian, it does make a difference. It's also nice if they can be your friend because they will tell you the truth of what you need to work on.

How do you find an editor? Talk with others, check their websites, and check with pricing, sometimes it's true you get what you pay for. Of course, there are those who will take advantage, like everything else, do your homework. :)

That being said, are you able to let your editor help you? If you find yourself defensive, then maybe that person isn't for you. But...if you can take their correction, then you two can make your work sing! :)

Love is in the Air

Today is the official launch day of ONE RED ROSE, an anthology published by Dancing With Bear Publishing. I wrote a story about Jim and me and I am pleased to say that it was accepted for this book.

We were married on Valentines Day 43 years ago and it's been a great ride to be sure.
I'm offering an autographed copy in a drawing to those who post a comment on this site or Facebook.

I'm happy to do this because I want to show everyone love and encouragement with a big smile from me. It's a special month for many and another chance to show you all, especially writers to never give up on your dreams.

I encourage you to keep writing because each time we do, we get better at our craft and God given purpose in life. If I can get published, you can. I have been blessed in several genres and places to get contracts for my work. But...there is still my dream of one day having one of my novels find their own new adoptive home. I've worked hard and had to have several transfusions along the way. Those puppies really do bleed you in the process but it's so gratifying to me to see and hold one when it's finished. Then it goes in the oven and bakes for awhile before I take it out and re-visit with strong edits.

I recommend a critique group (friends who care) and a good editor to help you spit-shine and polish. A good prayer and rinse under the waterfall will help too.

I don't have a lot to offer sometimes, keep writing and remember that you are loved always in Christ.

Hugs from Paulette.

Deeper in Christ

Do you believe it?? 2012! Happy New Year to all of you.

I just finished reading a wonderful book by Marie McGaha. I do a lot of reading and reviews for a lot of you and I enjoy each and every one. This book stands out as a wonderful book for me to purchase for my grand daughter's graduation from High School.

It's title: When God Talks It's Time to Listen.

Aimee has been accepted into the University of Northern Colorado. We are so proud of her, but concerned too. It's a big campus, there will be a ton of information and ideas that she will have to deal with as she leaves her little comfort "nest". We want to supply her with the ammunition she needs to stay true to her beliefs. Not only does this book do that but helps answer so many false ideas and peoples opinions that we know will come up.

The author answers these age old questions that pop up under different guises every generation, with precise clear answers. I recommend it to all readers and yes, even you writers. It encourages a deeper walk with your best friend, Jesus, and it can be used as a devotional.

My prayer for all of you writers is that you take a deeper step into the pool of life giving waters and strengthen your relationship with your Lord this wonderful New Year. May you be blessed above and beyond your wildest dreams as you write for the King. And...write with all the Love and Joy in your heart for His Glory.

Love in Jesus and hugs from Jim and me.
Remember, my email is coloradopolly@yahoo.com and my new website is pauletteharris.com If you need anything, there are lots of ways to reach me for prayers or help.
