New Group CMA

Kelly Mortimer has started a wonderful group of committed serious writers. I've known her for the last three years and find her a sincere person who loves to reach out and help other writers. It is called CMA, Christian Media Association, check them out!

Got a question about writing? Kelly is the one to ask, she answers with the love of the Lord. She was named The Literary Agent of the Year for 2008 by ACFW. Her Agency is the Kelly Mortimer Literary Agency. She also owns a publishing company. She is committed to helping new writers.

Her authors are among the best and she represents many diverse ones.

I highly recommend Kelly as a person of integrity and knowledge.

Her groups are fun to be with and she is all around funny along with encouraging people to get up, dust off, and keep going.

Did I say don't quit? Yeah, we all encounter the enemy, but hey friends, we have won the battle and so let's take a deep breath and move forward into what the Lord has prepared for the coming year. Good, I know y'all heard me. (I learned that from deep south friends in Mississippi!) I'm saving some of this stuff for future writing.

We've had a ton of company since Oct. but it's slowing down, now almost a year later, Jim is out of work, house back on the market, etc. etc. Life in general. We aren't any worse or better off than our neighbors at this time in history. So....we keep praying and praising.

One last thing sweet friends, keep breathing and praising the Lord. I just took another friend up to Seven Falls, a precious French friend, Stephanie, that came from France to visit. She is our daughter's best friend and we totally love that girl. I was reminded of the beauty around me and like the falls, that still keeps falling, we will keep breathing until Jesus comes for us. Although the falls are beginning to freeze up, there is still plenty of wonderful fresh mountain air by the pond.

For now, I send Jesus hugs your way and love each of you that come here.

Fred Warren's New Release from Splashdown

With Fred Warren's permission to quote some of his work, I would like to announce a great new writer to the fold. He belongs to our lostgenre group and has finally published his first book! Yea! for Fred. We are all looking forward to meeting him this Friday, Nov. 21st at Panera's of Briargate in the Springs.

"This is how a writer dies. He's emptied of words, left a blank page that curls and chars in the flame, then blows away on the wind, never to be seen or heard again." A second thought...."Inspiration is all about surprise."

He wrote THE MUSE. I can't get my computer to actually change into italics for some reason, thus the caps for this title. Grace Bridges of Splashdown Publishing published it. You can purchase it most any place and from Amazon.

Fred has written a clever story that I highly recommend for all artisans whether they write or create other forms of art.

His main character, Stan is a writer who is stuck with writer's block (ew dirty word huh?) Stan and his critique group are challenged to help one another.
Like an autoimmune disease, they begin to turn inward destroying themselves. An evil muse whom they've recently invited into their group feeds on their creativity.

This was one of those fast fun reads that I couldn't put down until I was finished reading from cover to cover. I was indeed surprised and inspired and would recommend it for any person who loves to read and create.

Good luck Fred! I loved it.

Welcome Kim Woodhouse and Her Famly

Today is the day that I start blogging again. As most of you know who come here, this is a place where I write to encourage other authors/speakers. I have a wonderful kick off too! The seventh person to comment will receive an autographed copy of WoodHouse Family Welcome Home!

I have a fine example to write about today and that is Kim Woodhouse, a strong wonderful writer/speaker.

She challenges us everyday by her kind and loving example of loving and trusting Jesus for her family's everyday needs. I thought perhaps that I would write what I put onto Amazon.com where you can find her wonderful book. The title is Woodhouse Family Welcome Home!
You can find many stories about Kim and her family life, they are the winners of an Extreme Makeover Home in Colorado. You can find her online at www.kimberleywoodhouse.com and she likes to twitter too! :) Twitter.com/kimwoodhouse.

Though EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES, the Woodhouse Family has come out on top and are still welcoming and smiling people full of joy and open arms to all who come into their lives. If you haven't read this book I would recommend it because it is full of overwhelming odds and wonderful pictures that show with love and courage that Jesus still reigns! They are literally an open book with their lives in this story.

Kim Woodhouse and her family welcome everyone who comes into their lives. I know, I am part of her writing group with ACFW and I have never been around a warmer family that embraces every person in their lives with a big W smile and arms that reach out to include others, no matter what their circumstances are at the moment.

This is a story of fears, hope, and grace with a huge dose of peace as they struggle through stages of looking for what is wrong with their daughter. They move from one place to another and see many doctors while Kayla goes through major tests before a diagnosis can be made. all the while, the family overcomes pain as they minister to others around them in faith believing that the answers will come. There isn't one part of their lives that isn't affected by the terrible rare physical problems that Kayla faces.
She can't feel pain doesn't sweat and needs to use equipment to keep her cool in an environment other than her home, kept at a comfortable (for her)60 degrees, give or take a couple of degrees that is! It all depends on how many people are in the home at a given time.

The story of the Woodhouse Family, who won the Extreme Makeover House for Colorado, is one of perseverance in a huge storm of circumstances. Every area of their lives has been attacked and full of adversity and I dare say, that only the Woodhouse Family could have survived.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who want to read a real-life success story where the family beats overwhelming odds. Today Kayla and her brother Josh are swimming competitively and Kayla's goals are to be in the Olympics. She is good at it! I am proud to know the Woodhouse Family and the inspiration that they spread around them. Kayla is a brave precious child of God whose smile and steadfast endurance is a challenge to all to keep on going in Jesus. Is she free from her physical limitations? No, but you can see by all the wonderful pictures in this book that chronicle the events from the beginning to the present, that she is happy and doing what she loves although it seemed to be medically impossible a short time ago.

Their wonderful story oozes Extreme Joy as they share their lives with others.

You won't be sorry that you shared their amazing journey with them, come take a look.

All things completed in Christ

We have come to the waters from all parts of the world to pause, reflect and relax in the Word of God. Jesus is here in our hearts to remind us that he helps us when we ask.

Philippians 4:13 for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.

This ends the study of Who I Am In Christ and we have learned that we are accepted, secure and significant. We know who we are and where we are going. We have been given purpose and the tools to hear and obey.

This past week, I have thrown myself into a whirlwind of activity concerning writing. I prayed to keep my priorities in order so that things will get completed and out at several publishers requests, that also included writing about Maggie and writing thank you cards to all the wonderful people involved in my writing. Their support has been overwhelming....one of those fall on your knees moments! NO....not like American Idol lately!

Last night Channel 13, a Colorado television station came to interview Maggie and the family. It turned out perfect and Maggie and Jake were sooo cute. Maggie's story has also been picked up by local newspapers and that is a good thing. Helps me learn and experience more marketing skills and also gets the word out to thousands of people how important it is to stay together when you are outside.

For those of you who don't know, Maggie, a little long haired beagle, was mauled badly by three coyotes. This happened in the middle of the day at the bottom step of the wooden deck at their home. I posted on previous blogs but thought if you missed them, that is a re-cap. I'll post her picture today too. It could have easily been our three year old, grand son, Jake. The vet said he would not have lived such a terrible ordeal.

Please feel free to comment. I am praying about where God wants this blog to go next. I am still learning about all the different things I can do. I enjoy others and so will continue to encourage writers and write of the waters.

Blessings to all,
Paulette Harris

Answers in Christ

Ephesians 3:12 Now we can come fearlessly right into God's presence, assured of his glad welcome when we come with Christ and trust in him.

Have you ever been in a place where there was just too much noise? Sometimes, you can't hear yourself think or hear the voice of the master. I am thinking of the loud silence of the Grand Canyon or the rushing noise of Niagara Falls.

I just returned from a writer's conference, Christian Writers Guild at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Every year God provides me exactly the food and knowledge I need to take the next step forward. However, the place is so lovely, the studies so intense and the fellowship so awesome that I have to be careful not to get distracted and to press my spirit to "just listen" to his voice for me as an individual writer.

This year, I was aware of what I needed to do and so Jim and I prayed for several days before the conference that I would be protected from distraction and be able to hear and press in on what Jesus had to say to me. I am still picking myself up because the answer was so embracing and loving. I heard like I have never heard before. My call was clear and concise and I am encouraged to continue forward in the writing world.

I also believe I learned to respond to others better in their need to have some self-worth there. I was blessed to be one of the "older writers" and had many come to me for prayer and encouragement. That meant a lot to me. I want to be an encourager to those who are serious about writing for God. It is a huge responsibility and we need all the hugs we can get, verbal or otherwise.

I was also blessed to be complimented on my hard work and prayed for by several people. One in particular gave me a word of prophetic value and it was so personal that I know it was from God especially for me to embrace and walk into. He opened several doors that I didn't even know existed!

Now, if he does that for me, of course he will do it for you. He is alive and well, yesterday, today and tomorrow!

So, today press into Jesus and ask him what he wants from you and then accept the prayers of one who loves you and wants to see you succeed in your writing. Remember why you are doing it and for who. I am praying. If you want some specific prayer, email me at coloradopolly@yahoo.com. I am right over here by the well and dipping the cup of life into the deep clear and clean water. Do you need a drink this morning?

Love,
Paulette

Created in His Image

Epehsians 2:10 It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that should spend these lives in helping others.

I just returned from the vet with Maggie. I have to take her in to see the vet every morning for dressing changes and meds. She is a little long haired snoopy dog and belongs to our daughter and grandchildren. Maggie has been with Jim and me almost six weeks because we are the re-hab hospital. It is quiet and we can care for her somewhat better. Also, we only have two steps in and out of the house, whereas the kids have steep staircases in the front and back of their house. Today I got a good report. Mags can go home in about a week and a half.

Maggie was badly torn all over her body by three coyotes the end of Jan. Every one loves Maggie and no one can believe she survived. Her vet said that she did because she loves with a huge heart and she is FLUFFY! That is a kind way of saying she is a little overweight. The coyotes also missed her jugular vein on the first bite.

I can't help but think as I write this post of what an example of servant hood this precious dog is. She took the place of our small built grandson who is three. The coyotes were hiding under the porch and Maggie didn't know what hit her. That could have so easily been Jake. They weigh about the same.

Maggie is sad here although she loves Jim and me, she wants to go home and be with her people. Especially Jake, who is sometimes too rough on her 12 year old body, Maggie just wags her tail and kisses him.

Why did I choose to write about Maggie today you might wonder? Well, it seems that she is a fine example of love from Jesus to each other. Maggie accepts each of us in her family exactly where we are at. She often places herself between her people and danger. I could give you a million examples during her 12 years on earth.

I learned that being a writer is being an artist in God's Kingdom. My heart prays for you fellow writers and your calling as artists. Be encouraged this day to ask God where and how you can serve one another to move forward in your calling. As God created us in his image, let us work to create good positive uplifting thoughts on paper to pass to the next generation. It is an exciting time we live in and there is much to write about.

My tears for Maggie's pain have turned to tears of joy as her vet tells me she is going to make it. It has been hard not knowing for such a long time and we are all relieved.

Father, I ask for all of us writers that we would become obedient to your direction. I ask that we would help one another to grow and become all that you have planned for us in our calling.

Thank you Father in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Amen

Heavenly Places

Good Morning precious ones. Today we are beginning some work in Ephesians. We are still on the subject of being Significant in Christ and it's important for our being that we dwell on high and lofty thoughts. No, we are not being egotistical when we believe we are significant, after all, we are created in God's image so it makes sense that we should embrace who we are and live accordingly.

Ephesians 2:4,5, and 6 tells us how much we are loved by God.
Ephesians 2:4,5, 6 But God is so rich in mercy; he loved us so much that even though we were spiritually dead and doomed by our sins, he gave us back our lives again when he raised Christ from the dead__only by his undeserved favor have we ever been saved__and lifted up up from the grave into glory along with Christ, where we sit with him in the heavenly realms__all because of of what Christ Jesus did.

Wow! I had to chew on that, it seems so impossible to be loved that much. Yes, I read of grace and mercy. I know Jesus Christ died for me. But,spirit calls unto spirit and I know this lesson is much deeper. The meat must be chewed and swallowed, it is not enough to just know the words..."Jesus Christ died for me."

Today though I am led to just kneel and wait on the Lord. I am underneath the willow tree by the bank where a clear, clean stream of water is pouring from the pond filled by the waterfalls. It is a quiet spot where I can hear the water pouring from far above the cliffs down into the pond but the rushing noise is in the background and is as relaxing as a down comforter. My toes are curling and I am relaxed as I just spend time on my knees waiting on my master. I am wanting quiet reflection and peace in my spirit. I want to hear his voice and direction for the next steps of my writing.

There are so many well meaning voices that speak of wisdom, love and advice that I can get actually side-tracked away from the "Master's Voice." It will confirm what the others advise. So...I trustfully listen so I know which way to go. Everyone has good intentions, but there is only one way and I must hear from the Lord which way? There is only one writing path that I am supposed to be on. That is the one which is cut out with clutter cleared before me. It bids me to follow it to Jesus. It calls me to write what he clearly wants me to say to a hurting world. I am unique in Him. He created you and me to write for Him, but each path is unique for each of us. He doesn't want cookie cutter writing at this point in the writing world. So what he asks of you in your writing and publishing may not be the same. Yes, we may have similar circumstances, but some of our jobs is to pray and pick up each other, dust them off, throw them under the waterfall of life, hug them, wipe away dirty faces and tears or whatever God tells us to do to help get the work done.

I just had a funny thought, maybe I need to get dirty and dig post holes today. Don't know really, just on my knees praying for you as writers and myself that God would receive and bless the work he called us to do.

Have a great day in Jesus and remember....You are a Kings Kid!

Reconciliation

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same any more. A new life has begun!
All these new things are from God who brought us back to himself through what Christ Jesus did. And God has given us the privilege of urging everyone to come into his favor and be reconciled to him. For God was in Christ, restoring the world to himself, no longer counting men's sins against them but blotting them out. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others. We are Christ's ambassadors. God is using us to speak to you: we beg you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, receive the love he offers you__be reconciled to God. For God took the sinless Christ and poured into him our sins. Then in exchange, he poured God's goodness into us.

What good news that is: We are free in Christ and significant. This has made us ministers of reconciliation for God. How often have we not spoken up because of fear, fear of rejection, fear of being wrong in our beliefs, fear of saying wrong, fear of speaking about God out of turn or thinking that we weren't called or it wasn't our gift or position to speak. Precious ones, that is a lie from our soul's enemy.

Let's put on our new ambassador clothing and start with a prayer every morning, that we could speak the truth and the truth would set others free. You remember how wonderful it was to meet Christ and get cleaned up? We want that for others too. Freedom in Christ. We want to see them enjoy our wonderful waters and share the love of Christ and yes, go to heaven as a family member. I have found a wonderful fellow author, her name is Ann Tatlock and her website is http://www.anntatlock.com/index.html Her passion in writing is all about the truth and love of Jesus. I pray that this week, you will be blessed under the falls of love and would be dripping onto others as they cry out for truth in such a mixed up world. Remember precious ones, Satan will always give a little truth in his big lies just to try to trip others up. We need to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves.

Be blessed precious warriors.

Love,Paulette

God's Temple

I Corinthians 3:16,17 Don't you realize that all of you together are the house of God, and that the Spirit of God lives among you in his house? If anyone defiles and spoils God's home, God will destroy him. For God's home is holy and clean, and you are that home.

The past year, my blogging has been about Who I Am in Christ. I have learned I am accepted and secure, now I am learning about how significant we all are in Christ.
Down by the falls, pond, stream and in the safety of the cleft of the rock there have been many lessons to drink from. I pray that each time we come to the Father for a drink of water and comfort, he would seal these precious nuggets in our spirits, that we may share with others. That we would be used satisfy their longing in pointing the way to a loving patient Father.

This week I had the privilege of praying for a precious sister in my family of Christians. She was being obedient and laying down a dream for a time of rest and waiting on the Lord for the next job. I placed her in the cleft after she stepped from the roaring falls so she could do just that. Sometimes, in being called away for rest, I like to think of this process of a "lone dove place". It's where we can look quietly from above and observe things below, basking in His peace and listening for his voice and direction. My friend was spent, it was time to re-group and spend time at her Father's feet. She yearns for a closer walk and to be able to produce more fruit in her life. Sometimes we get so busy doing the Lord's work that we forget to stop and go another direction, especially when we are successful at what we have been working so diligently on. But...God, in his amazing knowledge knows what we need and sometimes, that is rest and taking another direction for a season.

Taking care of our physical body isn't the only thing, we need to be willing to stop and care for our precious Church body too. That doesn't always mean we need to run out and take them dinner or give them a quick hug, although those things are important, we need to be willing to stop for a moment and listen to the Lord as he calls their name to our mind. An intercessory prayer is important as well for their well-being. I sense a word of urgency here as I lift her up to the Father. As He brings your name, I will do the same for you. Even if your name is only "Reader" right now. He surely knows who you are and what you need. Take care of your bodies dear ones, they are the only ones you have to use for the Lord's work. They need rest, food and comfort. Your physical body and your church body.

Paul says in I Corinthians 23 All are yours, and you belong to Christ, and Christ is God's.

Have a blessed day my friends in Christ.

Happy New Year 2009 Significant

Finally today, I feel that I can catch up. It has been a rough but joyous time here at the Harris house since my last post.

John 15:16 reminds us...You didn't choose me! I chose you! I appointed you to go and produce lovely fruit always, so that no matter what you ask for from the Father, using my name, he will give it to you. I am going to take one more step and that is the next two scriptures which say, I demand that you love each other, for you get enough hate from the world! But then, it hated me before it hated you.

What a lesson because I feel like I failed but God is so faithful, he picked me up and challenged me to keep going.

It started with my mini-job and a new computer and a new Word 2007...two dangerous things to use on a mind that is computer compromised. Excited, we set up the new computer, loaded, etc. etc, you know all the terms. The next day, my new one blew up too. I lost a lot of information, emails, some submissions, some pieces of my writing and was struggling big-time with a simple 15 hour a week job. I wasn't producing very much fruit. On top of that, I had awful flu almost all of Nov. and then after a week of rest, I got it again. Two days ago it was better and I have come from the land of the dead. Jim is coming out of the woods with it tonight. Poor thing. The first week in the New Year, sob! I was let go. I felt terrible, my pride and everything else exploded but still....I was at total peace and as I felt led to finally go back to my blog site, there was a post from Rose, it was so sweet and I knew that I was still loved and forgiven despite myself.

There were quite of few tests from fellow believers who left me in a cloud of dust and this lesson seemed quite appropriate as I pick up pieces, lick my wounds and start again. It doesn't matter where or how I have been misunderstood, I have my marching orders and that is to keep on loving and producing fruit, especially members of my body in Christ. I can do this on the strength of my Lord and Savior, that is why in John 15:26 he sent me the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. I need them and they need me despite ourselves!

But wait! I forgot to tell you the best part of all...God is faithful to the call on our lives! Yep! I got work published for payment in 2008. What a wonderful gift from Jesus. Friends, I have written and published for years, but this was awesome because one story made it in Faith Deployed and one in Cup of Soup for the Catholic Soul. A story that I wrote three years ago and also a story that I did not send to them for consideration. Jesus took care of that! I don't know how, another wonderful miracle in our lives. Years ago he promised if I would do my part, he would take care of the rest.

May each of you have a Blessed and Happy New Year. I am praying in the cleft of the rock and seeking ways in which to bless you.

Love,
Paulette
